Crumpling Nation
A statement about the failing state of the United States, both at home and abroad. The shot was inspired when I came upon this huge flag one day, and the wind and light were just right to make the flag look as if it were collapsing in on itself. I think I shot about 25 frames of the flag, until I caught the folds and creases with both front and back lighting just right. The title comes from the sad thought that came to my mind when I first saw this flag.
This capture is straight from the camera with no color-correction or other post-processing besides the cropping out a little of the blue sky to bring greater focus to the details of the flag.

Have always loved and celebrated these colours! Absolutely stunning capture. Yes there is a definite failing occurring and it is not just the US ... The condition (to steal a medical term that seems to fit) Failure To Thrive is currently Universal. I am a transplanted US citizen living in Australia. I can see the signs here that I lived in the US 5 years ago.

Great work. I have a similar shot that I took last fall where the edges of the flag are tattered. Maybe we should start a flag shot protest.

Great shot Ol’ Hippie! However, it’s business as usual here in the good Old US of A. When one considers the greed, ignorance, and violence this country was founded upon, it truly is business as usual. America always did destroy, and feast upon it’s children for profit, and imperialistic gains. Everything is going perfectly according to plan. The children are dying, the people are crying, and the neocons are cranking up the war machine.
