The Tsarevets is a medieval stronghold in Veliko Tarnovo in northern Bulgaria and housed the Royal Palace and Patriarchal Cathedral of the Holy Ascension of God. It was largely destroyed by the Turks in the 14th century but many of the stone walls still exst. The cathedral has been rebuilt during the restoration of the Tsarevets which took place between 1930 and 1981.
