This is a great example of a bee hive – Slovenian style. This one was located at Olimje Monastery near Podcetrtek. It is tradition to have a panel displaying motifs on the front of each hive. The paintings had a protective significance for the beekeeper as well as the bees and were often based on religious art, church scenes and fables.
