Like many, I have been both outraged and moved by the Chinese Government’s detention of Ai Weiwei on spurious charges of “tax evasion, bigamy, and spreading indecent images on the internet”. We can only hope that he will be released soon.

Whilst I am nobody’s idea of an artist I felt compelled to make my own small statement here on RedBubble. The Chinese government’s action is, I feel, the extreme expression of a censorship that can be practised by any government, group or organisation, and can affect any one of us at any time.

Although I usually avoid politics, I feel it is time to speak out against the persecution of creative individuals whose only crime is to think or act differently to an imposed cultural norm. Only then can we truly be free ourselves.
