Absolutely the last word from me on “anger”. This particular image has disturbed me, let alone my long suffering partner, Dave, who quite freely admits that he does not like it, as it is not me. Of course he is quite right. I don’t do anger – which is probably why this image is so uncomfortable for both of us.
Entirely experimental, of course – starting with one of my “angry” self portraits from last week. The base image was treated with various layers of fractalius to get that cracked flesh effect, then given a further layer of displacement to obtain those charming flaps of flesh. All merged, and then a final layer of fractalius to unify the face and flaps. Finally, a further copy of the base image given polar distortion, copied, rotated and oversaturated for the background. A final swathe of curlicues to give the flaps an organically ragged feel.
I don’t expect this to be a popular image – it certainly isn’t pretty – but then there is a certain degree of personal “truth” here, and the truth very often isn’t that pleasant to view.
