Defiant
Canon EOS 30D
A solitary Granite Boulder standing defiantly against the force of a fast flowing river.
Scotland has magnificent landscape and views, virtually, everywhere you look but I do tend to see the intimate shots that buried within them. I love detail that nature can show and reveal to you.
This image is one such example. This granite boulder was standing defiantly (hence the name) against the fiercely rampant waters of the River Findhorn, high in the highlands of Scotland. It is one of those marvels that I just love to see – isn’t nature amazing?

The eye of the storm, powerful motion, fluent like velvet, strong message.
Kevin Skinner replied
Thanks Bojoura,
A really nice, thoughtful comment. I love water in an image like this as it creates both chaos and flow throughout. Thanks again!

Love the motion in this image Kevin. It reminds of the tails of horses as they are galloping and that rock battling against the odds totally makes the shot. Great title!
Kevin Skinner replied
Thanks Simone,
Must try and keep up with the comments! One of my favourite images as I think it tells its own story – simple I think.
Thanks for the compliment

Karl Williams
This is good, Kevin .. the exposure time is long enough to give an abstract feel to the water, but not long enough to over-silk it .. very effective indeed
Kevin Skinner replied
Hi Karl,
Thanks for such a great and thoughtful compliment. I always try to use the water to show its flow as part of the image. It gives great effects plus it’s superb for B&W’s! :-) Thanks again

Sorry for the delay in responding, life is a wee bit busy these days!

Thank you so much!
With water, it is not so much what you want, it is how it wants to look. Never in control of the flow but this one came out well. thanks again

Hi Kevin. Just been browsing your images and noticed that I hadn’t commented on this beautiful image. Aye sometimes it’s the simple things that bring the most satisfaction. Very well done.

Hi Jim,
I always tend to look for images like these in the landscape around me. They tend to draw me in more than the sweeping vistas, if you know what I mean. Thanks for the compliment.
