Macro Reverse Ring
I got one!
Basically it’s a small ring which mounts onto the camera body on one side, and on the other side has a reverse filter thread.
The upshot of this is you can turn your lens around (in this case my 50mm f/1.8) and attach it to the camera, and through some physics hocus pocus, you have a macro lens.
It’s bloody cheap when compared to an actual macro lens.
Downside? Well, no foc…

Apples and Grapes
A friend posted a ‘funny email’ to me today, she said it’s funny because it’s true.
“Women are like apples on trees, the best ones are on the top of the tree. The men don’t want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and don’t want to get hurt. Instead, they just get the rotten apples from the ground that aren’t so good but easy. So, the apples at the top think somethi…
Relay For Life '09
I’m doing the relay once more this year with The Legion team.
We’re members of the official Gold Coast Titans supporters group, and for the second year running we’re participating in the Relay For Life on the Gold Coast.
The relay this year has been postponed due to the flooding earlier in the month, so we’re doing it in June 21/22. (Fingers crossed we get nice weather this year!)
Any…
2009 Abbey Medieval Tournament
The 2009 Abbey Medieval Tournament is fast approaching.
They’re once again looking for volunteer photographers to capture the action.
If you’re interested you can download the application form from the website
Flash Modifiers - Why Use Them?
While playing around practicing with flashes, I thought I’d do some test shots to show the effects of different modifiers.
But for comparison, here’s a direct flash shot.

There’s shadows on the wall, on the dog from its tongue, it’s hard and unflattering, and can be a lot worse with a person.
When using a speedlight…
Digital Photography and The Decisive Moment
An attitude that’s common with people using a digital camera is that with the virtually unlimited number of shots, it doesn’t matter if you screw up. Check the LCD, adjust, do it again, repeat until you get it right.
I’ve never agreed with this. Sometimes the opportunity is over in an instant and you never get that second shot. Or the third, fourth, fiftieth.
Henri Cartier-Bresson is one…
Movember 2008
Well, I’m doing it again!
Movember (the month formerly known as November) is an annual charity event held during November.
At the start of Movember guys register with a clean shaven face. The Movember participants, known as Mo Bros, have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their Mo, raising money along the way to benefit men’s health – specifically prostate cancer and male depre…
Caloundra Music Festival 2008 - Over for another year...
Except the processing.
Still, here’s some photos from it.

This guy was awesome. Would set up and paint the scene, in this case one of the bands performing. Big Bob and the Bluerocrats.

Brisbane City Romp
It’s on this weekend!
I’m in a team, and I don’t know what we’re doing. :D
Well, it’s a sort of treasure hunt/amazing race thing to help raise money for charity. “Aim of Romp: While you’re having a great day unlocking the mysteries of Brisbane, you’ll be helping the Burnet Institute to unlock the mysteries of the world’s most serious infectious diseases and cancers.”
It should be fun, an…
