Blood Moon

Steven Lippis

Blood Moon

Couldn’t resist shooting the luna eclipse on some telescopes kindly provided by Mikael Altoff and his Rainmaker Observatory in Brisbane.

This was two frames merged together, the full moon didn’t fit in one frame.

Got lucky and snagged Neptune off to the side.

    Thanks everyone!
Just wish I had a telescope of my own after the experience. Although I imagine it’d be like photography, there’ll always be something better to get, taking all spare money and time!

My favourite moon. I never noticed that button on the side before. Makes it look like a blood orange!
Can you see the rabbit beating a drum on the left hand side?

    WOW!!!!! lol
first of all, I’m in New York and it hit me had how your POV of the moon is many degrees different from mine. That happening never occurred to me. That dot at it’s ‘pole’ is much lower from here. LOL.
secondly, what are you using to shoot this with? film? DSLR? if so, what lens and settings. If you don’t mind, as one who has spent a lot of time trying to get this right, I’d LOVE to hear back from you.
And you were still able to maintain resolution/file size enough to not just sell cards but prints too!!
I need to know, lol. !
    Peace

You know, I actually had someone in America telling me I need to rotate it because it was the wrong angle, refused to believe we see it from different viewpoints across the globe.
While I still shoot film, this was on my dSLR. It was actually attached to a large telescope. To quote, “Photo shot through Celestron 235mm aperture, f10 Schmidt Cassagrain at prime focus. Thats a focal length of 2350mm”
I actually had to stitch photos together because I couldn’t fit the whole moon onto one shot.
