Crayon
Influenced by a song, written by a friend, the drawing is not for the song itself, but for the idea that arose in conversation around the song, that, as an artist… you can hide behind and inside who you want to be, create your own space, life and world… sort of control it in a way thats personal to you, ...sometimes art can be as personal to an artist, as a wound to a self harmer… (this is an obvious visual image of that idea)
Hope Is Important:
“I have seen all the horizons from Bangor to Southend on Sea
But they all have a dark cloud and holiday makers in ponchos
I’m drifting without tightly packed molecules or gravitational pull
Soaking up the atmosphere in a candle lit room
I don’t belong in this midsummer nights dream
I’m lost in the recycled tube station air staring at the commuters routines
I am hand drawn as a character in an arty french film
But I only feel this way when I’m slashing my easel and covered in paint
Sometimes you can forget that there’s others around you
When you’re comparing your plight to a trench dug in the 1940’s
The coffee mug stains and monotonity of working in uniform
Hope is important. This exquisite aroma only lasts for so long
I don’t belong in this midsummer nights dream
I am a silhouette in the mirror of a long lost flame
I am hand drawn as the vibrancy of an abstract painting
But I only feel this way when I’m not bound by the thoughts and fears of this world”
