Avid nature and wildlife photographer, in Ottawa, Canada. Main focus is to capture moments of animals behaving and mis-behaving in their natural environment. Much of this activity is recorded at Mud Lake, a conservation area inside the city limits.

Mud Lake was originally a marshy bay of the Ottawa River. The “lake” was created circa 1960 by the construction of a water filtration plant which effectively cut it off from the river. The water suface area is small by lake standards and has a maximum depth of 3 meters. The conservation area occupies 13.8 hectares

Birding groups have recorded more than 250 different birds in this amazing habitat, living here or just passing through, on their annual migrations.

There are many, many other animals, bugs, and insects thriving here and each visit offers up a new opportunity to step into this zoo without fences.

I endeavour to capture some of this “magic” of nature within our nation’s capital and to promote awareness of this jewel of our environment.
