Hermits signature! 1735. by greenstone

Posted on June 12, 2010

I have just looked up our mysterious HERMIT! DANIEL GUMB, born in 1703, in the Tamar Valley. The name and date carving were part of a gate post from his 3rd marriage. The property was, in its day 3 bedrooms, and 9 children were raised there. Many of them moved to America. The roof carving was originally a 30 footx10 foot granite slab, and depicts THE EUCLIDS theory. A study of numbers. Daniel Gumb studied stars by night, and numbers by day! I d prefer the star gazing anyday!!! LOL!!! He was also a gravestone carver. I hope that this gives anyone interested an idea about his background!!!
