I have just looked up our mysterious HERMIT! DANIEL GUMB, born in 1703, in the Tamar Valley. The name and date carving were part of a gate post from his 3rd marriage. The property was, in its day 3 bedrooms, and 9 children were raised there. Many of them moved to America.
