I’m back to freelancing and enjoying every minute of it. I recently finished a month and a half of contracting as a fashion photographer out of town and while I enjoyed shooting, the commute and the particular studio conditions did not appeal. So far, freelancing has paid just as well and is far more rewarding. Last week I worked in tandem with my regular partner in crime, International Photographer of the Year (BPPA UK) Troy Hansen on a commercial shoot, did a shoot for natural therapies author Jost Sauer (for an ad, his website and his next Allen & Unwin title), made moonlit night time captures of an historic Ipswich pub’s nightclub promotions and also shot my usual array of madness for the nightclubs in the Fortitude Valley.
My design work is picking up momentum as well, thanks in no small part to the mentoring my insanely talented twin sister has given me of late.
There are lots of personal projects that have been shelved of late but it looks like this year will see a merge of the work and play =)

Welcome back, I’m sure you’ll enjoy the freedom of being freelance once again.
Mark Greenmantle:
If work keeps coming in it will be enjoyable… if it dies off again… shakes head yeah, hoping that doesn’t happen eh.

Freelancing allows freedom and your life sounds exciting and so busy. Maybe you need to share around some of these projects/only joking/enjoy!
Mark Greenmantle:
…. ahh now I am still working out how to turn personal projects into commercial work. I’m posting a blog of my attitude on where commercial work is going in the industry over at my site on greenmantle.biz
It’s still in draft mode so it’s easiest to subscribe to the RSS and await the posting the easy way. It’s somewhat lengthy. hehe

Good work Mark :)
Mark Greenmantle:
Thanks Paul, and how have you been mate? Last we spoke I’d only just realised you aren’t working at AustZoo any longer. I think that’s right…. was somewhat under the gun around that time.
Mel Brackstone...
Good for you! I didn’t know you had an insanely talented twin sister!! Aren’t you lucky!
Mark Greenmantle:
Hi Mel, my twin is an advertising arts genius. My little sister is an Adobe Flash queen and my elder sister knows arts and gallery management like no other. Between us we could start up an agency but …… we don’t all work so well together. lol

Yeah, I’ve definitely done a lot since then.. I’m on a trip over in Western Australia now.. you can read some of my (mis)adventures on my blog: www.paulmp.com.au if you really want. Getting some top quality shots.
