all my why's and what for's

if they care to ask me how i feel
i feel wary and watchful
i feel something heavy going down
and no one will explain it
its energy will suck the life out our lives
leaving numbness or dread to replace it
will the other shoe ever drop?
i long to hear the sound of it
i want to feel its reverberation in my bones
i want it to consume me
like water from a clear and silent pool
consumes the quiet riverbank around it
when a stone falls in from high above
but their silence is the same as it ever was
like a giant heavenward hand
holding the sword of unexplained action
high above my head
leaving me feeling as if
all my why’s? and what for’s?
are undeserving of an answer

it can still make me feel
white bread and average
the cloyingly mushy middle
of a brilliant girl sandwich

Congratulations on your feature. You ask the questions we ponder in silence. Provoking thought in work inspires and is often opens the flow for others to create.

  • thank you Donna, for the wonderful comment AND the feature!!!

I completely hear you and understand for I guess we all do feel lost sometimes. This is well written and I will do as Shar said, add you to my list. Sorry if I have missed your work.

  • thanks so much, Iris! it’s easy to feel lost sometimes, but i believe it’s possible to reach out to others through art and lessen life’s blows, if even just a little bit…..i appreciate your lovely comment :))

If the soul see its life as a whole life – where does that leave us who are in the day to day, and the struggle of that?
    A wowzer piece of work.

  • wow, i never thought of it that way, Ken….that the integrated soul might see itself in ways the conscious and subconscious minds cannot…..i think that means there is hope for wholeness, if one only cares enough to uncover it…..thanks for the inspiration, my friend :)

Our fellow RB-er JL Kendrick (solarbear), recently wrote of this idea of how the soul views its life as whole thing – I’m really struggling with how this functions in my compartmentalized view. Your writing really pegs the feelings in this.

  • it seems to me we are conditioned to compartmentalize things, negative feelings especially, from an early age….for me, the struggle is to learn how to break down those walls i was taught to erect, and finally integrate all the compartments….writing poetry seems to help me do this :)
