the rush

you are the
rollercoaster
the high place
i can fall from
the fast car
that careens
around the bend
the shapeless figure
that chases me
through purple
dark dreams
the dentist’s drill
the doctor’s needle
the big speech—
but
you are also
the thrill of it all
the catch in my chest
as the bottom drops out
the prize on the shelf
after the contest is won
the certainty that soon
my feet will be back
on the ground
you are
the rush
the high
the wind in my face
the dazzling day
the tingle i feel
as your hand
brushes my knee
and you say
god, i love you

…and even after all this time
it can still make me feel
white bread and average
the cloyingly mushy middle
of a brilliant girl sandwich

Ah the thrill of the ride!!! Those ups and downs can scare you half to death sometimes but we always seem to go back for more! Fantastic flow to this Lisa – you’ve captured that ride just perfectly – and I love the ending! Passionate poetry wonderfully done!
