There is a strange fascination for me in the markings and textures of crocodiles. I think it stems from the fact that they seem so ugly and have such a terrible reputation, yet up close beauty can be found. I couldn’t resist the amazing textures, colours and patterns on this crocodile.

Tooo close for comfort. lol How far away were you?
About 30cm, using a macro lens. But I’ll let you in on a secret, he was only a baby!

Piercing, Damienne. Well done, as usual.
But baby or not, maintaining a distance of just 30cm from a croc all for the sake of the image is an incontrovertible sign of certifiable OCD and/or insanity. But with results like these, we appreciate you all the more for it. ;)
haha you may be right! What we photographers will do for a shot… But I think it was worth it. Glad you like it!

Fantastic macro, quite intimidating!
Thanks Astrid! Yes I agree, seeing it like this really reminds you these guys are the closest things to dinosaurs still left on earth! Been around so many thousands of years without much evolution at all!
