Jabiru or Black-Necked Stork
Jurong Bird Park,
Canon EOS 400D
Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 USM
f/4.5, 1/125s, ISO 200
RAW. As is.
I spent the best part of an hour just sitting in a hide watching this guy. Those eyes had me transfixed. Every few seconds the nictitating membrane (or third eyelid) would flash across it’s eyes. It was amazing to see the veins through the transparent membrane. And all the while this bird is keeping its eyes peeled on everything around it.
The Jabiru is listed as “Near Threatened” on the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species.
