Homeless
I walking around the streets of Melbourne and this man stopped me and asked me if I had any spare money. I gave him a dollar, but then realized I had my old Film SLR camera in my bag, I stopped him and asked him if I could take a picture of him. He told me was homeless. So I guess I tried as hard as I could to capture the emotion of his plight to just keep on getting through each day.

I love the depth in this photo, he looks so sad.
Have to say though he looks a lot neater than the homeless people over here.

Very good monochrome! You certainly have the ‘eye’ for capturing strong, spontaneous portraits.

Packs a punch, its a powerful image. I cant help wondering though, is he homeless by choice or circumstance. If its the later then its obviously sad. There are people who chose to be homeless & there are people who make a good living pretending to be homeless. They beg all day in Edinburgh & jump into a nice car & drive home. They claim social benefits & have more money than those of us who work.
True homeless people suffer as a result of this type of con trick. 1st class photography though. Just cant help wondering if this is a real homeless person.

Homeless people don’t always ‘look’ homeless. There’s no stereotypical image. I agree that the people who pretend (and they do exist) are WRONG. However, what exactly should a ‘typical’ homeless person look like? Please remember that many homeless people can access shelters and supported accommodation. They’re still homeless though – maybe not roofless but definitely homeless. I work with homeless teens and you wouldn’t know they were homeless, not by a long shot.
