Trying to Understand 9/11 by Judy Wanamaker

My grandson holds his tiny American flag high during a 9/11 commemoration ceremony at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. The horrible event occured before he was born; and in his innocence, he asked questions about why some people wanted to kill other people “for no reason.” I can’t find an answer to give him. God bless America. Canon Powershot sx30IS

A Florida native, I enjoy taking photos of the natural beauty around me. Photography is a wonderful way to preserve the memories of that beauty. My family is also my passion, and I enjoy recording the things we do together. Strictly a hobbyist, I have won a few contests, and have been published within the state several times. Sharing these photos with friends who share theirs with me is a most gratifying and lovely experience.

Too bad little ones have to learn about the hate and evil that exists in the world. It was a very emotional day, and I found it hard to watch too much of the coverage. It’s still fresh in my memory. Great use of selective color.

  • Thanks very much, Dot! The kids had never spoken of it before, but they were curious about why we were observing 9/11. I feel utterly at loss for words. How do you explain such unspeakable evil to such wide eyed innocence? It broke my heart. I don’t want them to ever have to deal with that.

    Beautiful photograph Judy !
The deeds are beyond comprehension !

  • Thanks, Trish! True evil is far from his comprehension; and it is almost impossible for me to grasp. I just wish he had not been introduced to it yet. The world is really in a mess right now.
