A great egret preens as it perches in a tree, contorting in impossible poses. Homosassa, FL Kodak Z980

A Florida native, I enjoy taking photos of the natural beauty around me. Photography is a wonderful way to preserve the memories of that beauty. My family is also my passion, and I enjoy recording the things we do together. Strictly a hobbyist, I have won a few contests, and have been published within the state several times. Sharing these photos with friends who share theirs with me is a most gratifying and lovely experience.

Beautiful capture Judy, looks like veil she is fluffing. Well done!

  • Thanks, Kristy! She was fluffing her damp plumes. She still had her mating plumage.

LOL I sure can’t, but all kidding aside, this is GORGEOUS!!! I love the way the deep blue of the sky provides a background through the green leafy branches. It’s so sharp and clear, too.

  • Thanks, Nancy, for your kind comment! They really are gorgeous birds who insist on twisting themselves into “painful” positions. LOL!

I could never do that! It’s such a beautiful shot of the great egret, I had no idea that they could do that!

  • I love to watch them preening, because they can twist like pretzels.
