Figures of Sinterklaas and his Zwarte Pieten (Black Peters). The Dutch tradition of Sinterklaas is celebrated on December the 5th each year. The holiday is the origin of the globally known Santa Claus. Traditionally Sinterklaas would ride his horse over the rooftops and his Zwarte Pieten would go down the chimneys and put a sack with gifts in the room for the children. The gifts would come with a rhyming poem about the person and his or hers experiences over the last year. About 70-80 percent of Dutch people celebrate the holiday tradition.
