Loneliness and the Long-Distance Runner by

A very special Lady… an American visitor to these shores and the back country lanes of Devon, Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire… She flew over alone for the Forces March 2012, ran the 135 miles in the terriffic heat of 23-27th March and with hardly a backward glance, flew home again on the same day it ended.

A shining example of courage, endeavour and selfless support for our Veterans which some closer to home could do well to learn from!…

A very gutsy and admirable performance from a very lovely Woman.

Thank you Brenda and Good luck for the future.

wonderful image! I’m a runner also and it’s really the only time i feel whole and at peace. Great shot

  • We were ‘Born to Run’ Mari!…. our whole physiological makeup dictates that we are designed to run!…

It does not surprise me that you find peace that way….

I find it moving through Mountains and Wilderness…running, walking and climbing…. movement makes us whole I feel.

So true! I actually have that very book ’ BORN TO RUN’ in my book bag… Im trying reconnect to roots of running. I told my trainer i want to run like i did ehen i wad 9 years old, hah. For fun.

  • I remember as a boy running like the wind, as if I was gliding with my feet hardly touching the ground,,,, I hated the the need to stop and rest.
Years later as a soldier I ran and marched carrying weapons and equipment(‘Tabbed’…Tactical Advance To Battle) for miles every day throughout my career, and ran light in the Mountains when home on leave…. running was my life, but do very little now.
Time to get back to my own roots I think! …It has been proven that regardless of illness or injury, the benefits of running far outstrip the deficits.

    Thank Mari!
