An autobiographical work addressing mortality. The waiting-room is a metaphor for life.
This was painted, on and off, over 3 years – life got in the way! The colours aren’t really true, it’s a bit yellower than the original, but it’s a truer depiction than the last one I uploaded! The light and dark areas are not as pronounced in the original. In life, it seems to have more depth and realism – my photography seems to flatten everything!
Overall, I’m fairly pleased with the result – it has good presence. Compared to the digital study it is a lot moodier and it seems to gel a bit better. Personally, I prefer this version. It’s not intended to be a carbon-copy of the digital study, I don’t see the point in that. I use the study as a starting point – to experiment with composition and as a photographic reference.
Doubt this will win any awards, but it has an engaging enigmatic feel to it which was what I was trying to achieve.
