A symphony in pink.
Based on a childhood memory of a spring family picnic in an orchard carpeted with fallen blossoms.
It’s a comment about getting older, the loss of naivety, the passing of loved ones, and yearning for the romantic optimism that envelops us in the spring of our lives.
For this piece I used a pastel palette in colours that I rarely use – it seemed appropriate. I wanted to portray the scene as soft and ethereal – a dreamscape or distant memory. Technically, the most challenging element was creating the drifts of blossoms and giving them a convincing perspective. The gates in the centre background indicate that we are in a walled garden – a safe and private place. The two dogs, a metaphor for the artist, represent a dichotomy – one strides confidently, the other is uncertain.
Dedicated to my model and muse who recently passed away.

Thank you Trudi. I usually favour more saturated and vibrant colours, but I wanted to reflect the personality of the model in this piece – soft, gentle and very pretty.
