This depicts the moment of the passing of a Pharaoh. She lays on the right while her Lady-In-Waiting flees on the left. An attendant dog sits, Sphinx-like, in the centre near the throne, transfixed by her mistress’s motionless body. In part, inspired by the story of Cleopatra, fallen after the asp had delivered its deadly sting.
Great image and thanks for supplying the explanation !
Thanks Trudi! I like to create works that make people ponder and discover the layers of meaning, whether it be the ones intended or their own. I think it adds to the work’s longevity if there is a degree of enigma about it …… but, perhaps sometimes I go a little too far! ;-)
