The Wizard of Oz transcended fiction when I “caught” this tin man holding Dorothy’s straw basket as he walked across a New York City street. The Dorothy-like figure, pictured on the passing bus behind him, as well as the shocked green face to his left, seem to be reacting to the apparent misdemeanor.

I usually bring two cameras with me almost everywhere I go:
a Nikon D-60 and a pocket-sized Sony W-300. The smaller camera is perfect to have on hand because I can take it from my pocket quickly and unobtrusively. Being ready is important for those unusual moments that pass before us quickly…such as a tin man crossing a street in New York.
Photos can tell stories and this one is no exception: all “eyes” are on the tin man – those of the two faces on either side and also the viewer’s. He is at the center of the photo, and hence, the center of our attention. His eyes seem to react to the unwanted “exposure” which, for me, makes this an even more interesting story.
