In A Dream
It must have been November I could tell from the leaden sky and the bite of snow in the air .
Hunting I had been,I could tell from gun in hand.
Darkness coming,a front lifting,like some great white blanket being pulled from the sky.
Up the steps,kicking snow from boots.
Opening the door,you were there, a smile framed in silver hair.
You took my coat and helped to stow my gear.
I sat by the woodstove soaking up heat in my worn and familiar seat.
You brought me hot coffee and of all things hot, fresh buttered bread.
It was home and it was good.
