nice one glenn, but it intrigues me to think what the perfect shape cut out of the rock face was,do you know.

It is intresting for sure.I’m not 100% on this but I’ll hazard a guess at it.The rock in this shot is shale.Shale is very weak-essentially really hard mud.A sedimentary rock formed when this area was the bottom of an ocean essentially.Horizontally it will cleave in a line matching the original layer of sediment, often a staight line.Vertical is a different story-usually it fractures in a jagged pattern. In this case I would say there was stress from settling or ice /frost, or a stress from when the rock was being formed. In which case it will cleave cleanly in a straight line.As for the relief inwards in this shot water gets behind the rock face, freezes and literally pushes the stone face apart.A million or so years ago this waterfall was 3/4 of a mile downstream, which is a fairly rapid occurence in geological terms I guess.I hope this helped to answer your question-G

It’s an amazingly powerful place-when one is at the bottom of the falls you can feel the power. The rock walls are amazing-beauty born out of violence-the power of water.

There are places I have been, mostly natural environments, where the awe just takes you over. You feel it way down deep and out to the tip of every nerve ending and hair follicle and you feel like you will burst with it. It would seem that this is one of those places.

  • Glenn-Patrick ... replied

It is-I took my little girl there and she looked up at me and said”Dad, I can feel it” with a scared look on her face.Pretty amazing spot.
