I came upon the sepia version first. My mind seems to swirl around my first impressions and then find it difficult to reform around new ones. So… perhaps as a result of sequence I lean to the monotone. Still, this is so haunting, as if the sun is setting on a epoch as the buzzard swirls to feast upon the carcass of … of… Detroit?

Hi Ted….your comments are always so interesting and insightful….you look for that sometimes elusive statement an artist is trying to make. Now I’m faced a dilemma, though. Should I reveal my intent for the piece or not? Well, I think not…every viewer should draw their own meaning from the work. But if you want to know if you got close, I’ll reveal that my first title for the piece was “American Metal,” and I then decided to change it to “Almost There.” Either way it could be societal commentary…or not. Thanks so much for taking your valuable time to comment. You even make me think more about my intent.

Images like this remind me of why I spent so many years in New Mexico and leave me rather homesick :)
I love the colors and the imagery. The simplicity and the colors are so Southwest!

Thanks, Kathleen. I predict you’ll be back in the Southwest one day…at least for prolonged visits!
