Construction of the Cathedral commenced in 1874, around the old St Saviour’s Church.
The bricks of the old church now form the floor of the Cathedral.
The building was completed in 1884, though without the spire and bells which Blacket had included in his design. The tower and eight bells were added in 1988, financed by fundraising and a $1 million Bicentennial Grant. The nearby Parish Hall was built in 1874 and extensively renovated in 2003 to 2004 in conjunction with the Goulburn Regional Conservatorium.
