Cape Reinga Lighthouse
Cape Reinga was the last attended lighthouse in NZ, it started operation in May 1941when it replaced the light on nearby Motuopao Island. This is one of the first lights that shipping see when arriving across the Tasman Sea or the Northern Pacific Ocean.
The lighthouse was fully automatted in 1987 and the keeper position was withdrawn. The operation of the light is now completely automatic and is monitored by computer and Maritime NZ staff in Wellington.

This is quite a hilly area so the lighthose itself is at the end of a pathway. This was taken about half way down the path but still at a height above the lighthose.
