I’ll be in Brisbane for the first week of May, visiting the Creative Industries Faculty at Queensland University of Technology. They are starting up a new Computational Arts program, which I want to find out about. There is a gig on Thursday May 3rd which I am part of:
When: Thursday May 3rd, 8pm (ending 9.30).
Where: The Loft, Creative Industries Precinct, Kelvin Grove Campus, Queensland University of Technology,www.ciprecinct.qut.com/spaces/.
Who/what: Live electronic music by the group Simulation, a live coding performance from aa-cell, and some algorithmic/generative audio-visual stuff from me.
Also I’ll be talking to a couple of groups of students about my work, which I guess is computational art. I’ll be making a fairly general presentation on Wed 2nd May at 1pm, I think in the Music Dept at the Kelvin Grove campus (I don’t know the precise venue yet).

This should be quite a buzz to see, I`ll try to make it along for sure…

It seems that interesting things are happening at QUT. It is easy to be cynical about the name “Creative Industries”, as I was when I heard about it, but then I thought about the Sydney Conservatorium, where I am currently studying. It has strong industry links, to the opera and the orchestras; we just don’t normally think of them as industries.
Also, the gig at QUT is free!
