Thanks so much for your comment, dear Susan. You are right…one of the things that no one can forget about Africa is the mysticism…among many others…because Africa is unforgetable…. Hugs, GP
I could look at this for hours… something new to see everywhere on the page… i love the woman in the bottom right of the image…. her expression and hairstyle…fashion, jewellery, so unique and beautiful… i also love that guitar made from a box?… i think there is deeper meaning in this… the hands are very symbolic :)
Thank you dear Karin for the beautiful feelings on your comment. That guitar is made of a tin of Olive Oil. Kids use them for that…to play their musics, because guitars are expensive. Today things are changing, specially in towns….. Those hands are praying to the spirits of the ancestors that inhabit in the big tree and protect all the tribe….Things of Africa, that we only understand and love, if we lived there for sometime. Keep in touch…hug, GP
So magical and beautiful. Looks like wood cut. I’m not familiar with a wood canvas. Is it soft? How do you draw on it? With a tool? I’m very interested in your beautiful work.
I couldn’t be happier that you have joined Solo Exhibition.
Dear F.A. Moore, these my works are not really wood cut. Wood canvas is the name I gave to the material over wich they are made, because it’s a kind of plywood, plane on one of the sides and in the other is a imitation of the canvas texture. These are drawings made with a pen over that “wood canvas” that is prepared before with a white acrilic paint. What gives it that “wood cut” look is the uncolored varnish I use after to protect the drawing. This varnish pull the white acrilic and the black traces look like they were carved in the wood. A technique discovered after years of work and based on experience.
I hope that my short explanation could answer your questions. Thanks for asking and for the so much nice opinion that you have about my work. It’s also a pleasure for me to have joined Solo Exhibition and be so well accepted. You are very welcome at anytime. Hug, GP
