These glass pieces are called insulators. They were insulating supports used to attach electric power distribution or transmission lines to utility poles and transmission towers.Usually they were made of clear glass, but, if certain elements were beyond the level of traces, the sun quite often turned the glass to glorious colours that are sought by collectors today.
