These glass pieces are called insulators. They were insulating supports used to attach electric power distribution or transmission lines to utility poles and transmission towers.

Usually they were made of clear glass, but, if certain elements were beyond the level of traces, the sun quite often turned the glass to glorious colours that are sought by collectors today.

Love my camera and am working to improve. My photos are generally taken with a Nikon D3000 with either an AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm lens or a 55-300 mm lens. European shots and a number of more recent ones were taken with a Sony Cybershot camera. I have a new IMAC and play with the iPhoto program. I also crop judiciously. Constructive criticism is welcome.
