Suggestions --------- please :)))

Hi One and All

Am off on the 14th April back to the USA for my 23rd trip, so much to see and so little time and all that !!!

Am off to San Francisco, then Yosemite. Flying to Las Vegas staying at the Paris Hotel for a while before picking up my Chev Trailblazer and heading off.

My plans are up in the air from there, this is basically where I want to go,

- Zion/Bryce Canyon
- Arches National Park
Monument Valley
Lake Powell
- Antelope Canyon out of Paige
- Grand Canyon

Yes, there is a lot on this list and I can’t possibly see it all but I live so far away am going to see as much as I can
Hopefully having time to visit Death Valley and Red Rock Canyon nearer to Vegas before returning the car and flying to San Francisco.

Being an Aussie I am used to driving long distances in areas where there isn’t much in between so it doesn’t worry me. I have GPS… yay !!
I have ten full days for this part ….which I know is not a huge amount of time but as mentioned am willing to drive anywhere and any distance to see these areas.

Would really appreciate it if you could offer me any advice on what to see, where to go any routes which are best and what weather conditions I may encounter…....so I don’t need 5 suitcases LOL. Or things to avoid :)

Thank you so much, am excited !!
Hugss

When in San Fran. don’t forget to drive along the “Big Sur”...its a beaut…
10 days unfortunately is a short time for all you have planned. You must do Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon…although the rest are sooo beautiful too…so, grab as much as you can, travel as light as you can…One suit case or duffel bag should do it. If you need a t-shirt along the way, the souvernier shops have so many of those, they are forced to sell some of them….Bert

Capital Reef is very cool (near Bryce), not so far as Arches and a little less “discovered” than some of the others. In between is the Grand Staircase Escalante national monument… also wonderful and worth a peek.
    I’m ENVIOUS!!

Globalphotos in reply to bertspix’s comment, 4 months ago

Thanks Bert …..will try to see the “Big Sur”, have actually over 3 weeks there but wanted to spend a decent amount of time in Yosemite, I can drive fast !! Will travel light, well as much as possible for me that mean 25 kg s :D Have been to the Grand Canyon before, hired a plane and few over, this time I want to get a chopper to the bottom :))

Globalphotos in reply to Tom Vaughan’s comment, 4 months ago

Ahhhhh ok, hadn’t heard of that !! Will definitely add that to the list, thanks Tom !!! Will be great fun :))

getting a chopper is cheating.. (:-))) ..there is a trail, called “Bright Angel Trail” I believe…walk down that one and really enjoy nature at its finest…

Ahhhh but but but, it’s fun !!! I love choppers, last time I flew over Vic Falls…been my preferred way of viewing since ….... was thinking I wouldn’t have time to trek down …. :)

  • bertspix

    bertspix, 4 months ago

Let me make you feel really guilty: these excursion planes, and particularly choppers create air polution and terrible noise pollution. The latter interferes dramatically with wild life, who are not at all used to this noise. In fact, I heard somewhere that it is now forbidden to fly low into Grand Canyon…I hope this is true…I must admit that I too flew over Vic Falls….in a Cessna, quite high…I got some pictures…I’ll try and find them…Bert

Ok suitably guilty, hmmm think my carbon foot print will be extreme this trip…....especially the flight over !! If I get time I will walk, stay tuned for picks of my feet on the ground :D Good point Bert :))

Sounds like a ripper trip Varinia!

Do the chopper flight over Vegas…awesome way to see it & no guilt there.
Vegas – See Beatles Love (Cirque De Soleil) at the Mirage.
Vegas – Play 5c pokies just so you can order free (normally $10-$20) cocktails.
Nevada was 50degs C when I was there last June….Arizona was a more comfortable temp
As above, Sedona is a must see.

We had GPS help too and it rocks…makes the journey so simple, so you can concentrate more on driving on the other side of the road ;)
Very jealous V…there’s a lot of spots your going that we originally planned for photography, but couldn’t squeeze in.

Will look forward to the photos! Have a ball! :)

San Francisco is beautiful, alcatraz is worth the visit, Yosemite is stunning, a chopper flight into the Grand Canyon is worth the price, and Bryce and Zion are beautiful. My absolute highlight though was Monument Valley, absolutely magnificent, do not under any circumstances miss it.

San Francisco is one of my favourite cities. I managed a weekend there during a trip (I did not have to work) and did all the tourist bits. I also stayed in Santa Rosa (just north of San Francisco) for 2.5 weeks, so I had two weekends to do Northern California including a canoe trip on the Russian river. That was really good.

Sounds wonderful…...am staying at the Westin St Francis on Union Square, very central for exploring…..... the canoe trip sounds great! I love white water rafting , not sure I’ll have time this trip though :))

    Varinia,
A few places I haven’t been to but are on my list: Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks just south (4 hours) of Yosemite. If you choose to hit this park before you head east towards Southern Utah’s wonderful parks (Bryce was a favorite of mine) drive through Death Valley on the way. It’s actually rather photogenic! Have a blast and be safe!

You might bubblemail Marvin Collins. he lives in Arizona and I am certain he couldpoint you in the best direction for your travel. A trip through the Gold country of California is a worthwhile trip as well. You might really enjoy that.
