As a young child in the mid to late sixties, friends of my parents had a shack, yes, a shack, along the foreshore here at Hallett Cove. We used to visit them and climb, clamber, slide down and rample over these formations with reckless abandon… How BLOODY stupid we were!!!
Thankfully, these shacks were torn down not long after. Mind you, there has been significant urban development within a stones throw of the amphitheatre within which this “Sugar Loaf” is located. This area is now a Conservation Park!
A little over a decade ago, my wife did a year long course on Geology at Marden Senior College in Adelaide, South Australia. As part of this course, we paid visit to this wonderful place, with a very different eye. I took many, many photos of the area which Jan used in her “project” after the journey. Her teacher was given them for use in the following years and remain with the college after this wonderful teacher died a few years ago.
On the clifftops to the North West of this photo are some wonderful glacial striations to see…for those who live in or visit SA that haven’t been there, it is a MUST SEE place to go.
This photo, and ‘Globalphotos’ other shot really shows the wonderful colours and geology of this very interesting place that is now preserved for future generations to appreciate.
