I began taking pictures several years ago, and have fallen in love with photography. Nothing compares to standing behind the lens capturing a world full of color and wonder. Adjusting from the richness of film, such as Fujichrome Velvia, to digital was difficult, but now I have embraced the digital world and really enjoy it. It’s amazing what one can do in photoshop. However, I will always have a fondness for film! From living beings to inanimate objects, I have always tried to convey emotion and mood through my photography. With my living subjects, I attempt to capture their spirit, strength and beauty while discovering an aspect of their personality that one doesn’t see very often. This is very intriguing and rather challenging which only adds to my enjoyment behind the lens. This type of photography requires quite a bit of patience, so when I get that perfect shot, the excitement can be overwhelming. With inanimate objects such as statuary, I imagine what kind of personality my subject would possess if it were conceived of flesh and blood, and I try to incorporate that into my shot. Cemeteries, parks and public gardens are wonderful sites for this type of photography. One photo that I’m particularly fond of is a small intricately carved stone face behind a waterfall that I discovered in Atlanta. For me it evokes a myriad of emotions that are sad yet hopeful. I like to think that when one views this photo they too can also sense these powerful emotions.
