Glenn Valentine – Pastel artist
Although I have had no formal artistic training, my experience as a draftsman has allowed me to develop an eye for detail and precision, which is a key element of my work. Early experimentation with photography was instrumental in cultivating an appreciation for compositional harmony and tonal values.
After experimenting with various painting mediums I now use pastels exclusively, as their pure pigment creates a vibrancy, immediacy and energy within the works. Whilst the content of my work centres on the mundane I try to convey a sense of light, hope or radiance, by layering the pastel and later rubbing it back to reveal the lighter tones underneath.
