My first camera was an Argus C3 given to me by my Uncle. Became interested and over the intervening years I have done photography and stopped, only to start again. Have begun again in the last 4 years with Canon Digital Point and Shoots. I have no training in the arts or photography. I have read some of Ansel Adam’s series, never finished.. I have learned a lot from seeing the fantastic images here.

The Grumman FF series, plus the F2F and F3F, were some of the best biplane fighters of their time,
featuring as they did the important innovation of retractable undercarriage and enclosed
cockpit. A really terrific capture!!!! Congratulations on being featured!!! Bill

  • This has to be one of the most beautiful biplanes ever made IMHO! I think they kinda just took off the top wing and invented the F4F, IIRC! Thanks for the visit, congrats and kind remarks.

Nicely taken shot Glenn. – Ted
The Grumman F3F was the last American biplane fighter aircraft delivered to the United States Navy, and served between the wars. Designed as an improvement on the single-seat F2F, it entered service in 1936. It was retired from front line squadrons at the end of 1941 before it could serve in World War II. Was commonly known as “The Flying Barrel”.

  • Thank you Ted, just yesterday realized it was an F3F and changed the title. I happen to love them again for the plain beauty (pun intended)!

Wonderful aircraft – great shot! This old bird is a sesquiplane, and you’ll need to find a good dictionary to find out what that means!

  • I think it means it is old, very old…… Does it predate the Ryan PT-22? It is IMHO an exquisite looking aircraft!

Without looking it up I think its about the save vintage as a PT-22. A sesquiplane is a biplane that has the bottom pair of wings smaller than the top ones. Lesson over – enjoy the day!

  • That is a cool thing to learn, should learn something new everyday! Sesquiplane. Now to find someone besides you to use the term with {:-))! Thank you Colin!

I don’t know much about aeroplanes, though my husband does, but I love the blue colour of this one!

Beautifully looked after. Are these planes very old Glenn?

  • Hello Eve, this one here from the late 30’s before aviation transitioned finally to a single wing airplane. Thanks my friend!
