Stratus nebulosus opacus

Stratus nebulosus opacus

Leonardo da Vinci once described clouds as ‘bodies without surface’. They are ghostlike, ephemeral, nebulous; you can see their shapes, yet it is hard to say where their forms begin and end…..

Stratus nebulosus opacus belongs to the following groups:

Beach Art, Minimalist Landscapes, Photo-Zen and Skyscapes

Distilling the elements to the extreme bare minimum… very, very beautiful….for me, one of your best so far.

  • GlennC replied

Ian, thank you, very kind. Will bring the print to see if it stands up to the praise.

why is not square ? not that I’m saying that it should be

  • GlennC replied

Dad, thanks, I thought the sky was so interesting i could not bring myself to crop it into a square. The title is the cloud type i saw that morning….

beautiful dreamy moment and tones, the sky is brilliant (maybe the best yet), highlights on the horizon give the sea life – wonderful image ( just asking the question does it need all the foreground ? – I can’t decide either will have to see the print) – EXCELLENT WORK Glenn

  • GlennC replied

Dave, your very kind! Your question is very valid, initially i had planned to crop it to a square, however, when i saw how the sky had been captured, i thought the extra foreground with the hint of a shadow from the first post balanced the image? but you know me i could be wrong….

Forgot to add, love the words gives the image a new dimension. Clever

  • GlennC replied

Listened to what you and my Dad have said, the quote is from a book called ‘cloud spotting’ which felt appropriate and the title is the type of cloud i saw at 4 am that morning….

‘Bodies without surface’... that Da Vinci is a clever chap :)

As are you, it’s almost like the 3rd post from the end is propping up the horizon. Love the layers of silk in the clouds also.

  • GlennC replied

Donald, thanks! Clouds are incredible and fascinate me! people often don’t notice them unless its raining, but if more looked up and took the time to watch them move and change shape perhaps they would share my interest….. It one of the reason I alway try to include a ‘sky’ into my images….

Tones and exposure are excellent. I just love the minimalism here: that’s what long exposures are for. The composition is simply beautiful. Very nice quote btw!
