Beautiful Glenn! We saw rose bushes at the beginning of every row of vines in vinyards in the south island of NZ too. Why do they do that Glenn? What’s the significance, do you know?
Glenn Alderson replied
Thanks Magee :)
Where varieties of grapes are planted that are susceptible to diseases roses can often serve as early warning. grapes and roses grow exactly the same way and are affected by the sample diseases and problems. The rose is more deliate and will get the disease first.

Yes they like their reds – just been up around Angaston, and passed the same red rose borders as here.
Glenn Alderson replied
I wonder if they use red roses in vines for red wine & white roses on vines for white wine varieties. How was Angaston ?
Shelly Hiebert

I wonder?? – Haven’t seen any whites (roses!) though. I think those bright red roses are the same ones as grow at the local supermarket complex. I think they just love to play off the complimenty colours with the red against the vines, and wineries always are well-presented.
Angaston was fleeting, and a ridiculously long drive. Very dry. Nice character trees, though.
Glenn Alderson replied
I’ve see some white ones somewere, I’ll have to keep an eye out now. Some wineries are very well presented with rows of trees all neatly lined ready for us to photograph.
