Teton Sunset
The setting sun shines through the smoke created by local wildfires in Grand Teton National Park.
Nikon D300, Nikkor 24-85 f2.8-4.0 lens
Three image HDR processed in Photomatix and Photoshop Elements. Exposures of 0EV, -2 EV and -1EV. I didn’t use any +EV images because I didn’t want the foreground trees to be overly exposed.

Gorgeous view Gary. I hope the fires dont cause too much devistation
Gary Lengyel replied
Thank you Rosemaree. The fires didn’t consume the thousands of acres that happened in Yellowstone back in ‘88 (‘89?). So hopefully everything is OK up there. There were fires in Yellowstone this time around as well. The park was even closed for a while.

When we were there in 07 you could still see the scars from the last big fires in Yellowstone. I know that it is natures way of keeping things under control but it is still such a destructive thing. And then when you get those idiots who think it is fun to light fires and put people, animals and land at risk it is even worse. i am not looking foward to the fire season here this summer. We were lucky in my part of Victoria last year but we lost many people and land in other parts of the state. Our area is tinder dry and if the forests near by go up it could be devistating.
I sincerely hope that I can get back to the USA again before long and really spend some quality time exploring yellowstone and the tetons…

Nice shot. Were you at GTNP in late Sept. ‘09 when the wildfires were raging as I was?
Gary Lengyel replied 14 days ago
Thanks Stephen. Yes, that’s when I was there. Surprised we didn’t bump into each other. I met a lot of photographers while there. Who knows, maybe we said hello and didn’t know it :)
