This image was captured from Ouray County Road 7 (East Dallas Creek) near Ridgway, Colorado. On a moody, mercurial fall day in the San Juan Mountains, I loved how the glorious colors before me contrasted with the gray mountain monochrome nearby. That’s Mount Sneffels (14,150 ft / 4,313 m) on the far left, the crown jewel in these parts, and reigning monarch of the San Juans. To the right, Gilpin Peak, the Block Tops, and Dallas Peak complete what was a very powerful scene.
