The photo was made using a Canon EOS-1V body, EF 400mm f/5.6 lens, and Velvia 100 film.
This image of a full moon setting at sunrise was captured in the fall of 2004 from Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park (United States). The photo was made precisely at sunrise, when for a few fleeting moments the sun’s rays lit the landscape an incomparable red. Trail Ridge Road is the highest continuous road in the US, and provides wonderful views of the Park and many miles beyond. Mount Ida is located in the northwest part of the Park overlooking the forbidding Never Summer Mountains. This remote summit can be reached from a trail leading southeast from Milner Pass. Mostly above treeline, and running right along the spine of the Continental Divide in northern Colorado, it’s a killer hike.
