The Voyeur of Secrets

Ok….so this is the last of this series….I know I always say that but I’m not telling porkies this time…...I have enjoyed doing them immensely. This is the first time I have seen something other than what I think would make a pleasing image and photographing it…....I saw each one of these images in my head as I looked at the door and thought about what it encompassed…..it had to be more than just a door….I felt that it had stories to tell…..right down to the last nail. These images have been what it made me see…..another onlooker would see something different. I have always looked at things in this way…....but I have never had the skills or the confidence to communicate my thoughts artistically to this extent….there were brief flashes….I teach Design and Technology but am very much at the technology end. I work with very talented individuals who sparked a creative journey that has its roots in a life long interest in photography. I grew up in a safe, loving environment with two wonderful humans as parents….but it was very much Science or die…....my first degree is in electronics…...I didnt know I had this in me….it may look amateurish to the more advanced and accomplished members of this site…...but it if it was not for this site I would not even have attempted this…..I feel very satisfied with what I have produced and how I have grown since August. It pained me to read Stuart Chapmans journal entry which mentioned his not understanding negative comments about the site…..I second that most wholheartedly…...I cant understand the negativity…...this site is remarkable….a one off and I thank its members for the inspiration and encouragement that has opened me up….if I knew I could do this 20years ago….......who knows?

Simon, this is a wonderful series. True art. Your processing is exquisite, but I’m sure you couldn’t achieve it without proper and clever settings during the recording of the images.
Seeing your progress here, I wonder what will be next. Your creativity is brilliant.
Thanks a lot for your writing, being a scientist doesn’t have to mean we can’t be creative. You’re the best proof of that.
I second your opinion about this place.

So true Kofoed….I have spent years argueing that engineers and scientists are endlessly creative people….problems would not be solved if they were not….this is just a different way…and a somewhat unknown one for me…this site has brought it out.

You’ve written such a lovely description of your opening up to the creative process, I could not be more pleased for you for the discoveries, or for the beautiful original work you’re doing. RedBubble has been a divine place for me, I’ve never had such great enthusiastic encouragement in my life. One works in quiet solitude a lifetime, this is unexpected and I’m delighted to read that it’s having the same effect on you. And DaVinci, after all, was a scientist first. We do ourselves great harm in accepting classifications, it only clips the flying feathers. Bravo on the soaring, Simon. It does not matter when it comes, only that it has arrived.

Spooky, maybe, but I like to think of it as the tree’s spirit lives on in the wood. Love this idea and your execution. Don’t know how to do a link here, but check out Druid, by Zeebuzz – similar idea.

Very creative piece! I totally agree with the what you say about redbubble… I feel I’ve come so far since I first found the site. I truly believe the main reason for that is being able to express myself in such a warm and creative environment :-)
