Watching.....Waiting

This image was inspired by my Grandmothers house. My Grandmother had a very long garden….gorgeous lawn and flowers that led onto a vegetable garden at the bottom alongside an apple tree that I remember climbing and falling out of as a small boy…..picking the apples in the Autumn…great stuff. I also remember stuffing my sister up the tree when she was 3 and not letting her back down….how she howled! Anyway…..the bottom of the garden led to a wood that was kept at bay by a large stone wall in which there was a locked door. I used to terrify my sister with tales of goblins and monsters peering at her through the key hole…..and if she got too close they would reach over the wall, grab her and gobble her up! I told her this for two reasons….....one because I believed it and two…..I was an evil little bastard who wanted to terrify his sister….......It still scares me still!

Who’s the model behind the door. A cousin?
Simon Gladwin in reply to Jeff Burns’s comment, 5 months ago
LOL Jeff…..a southern fried hic from the sticks type cousin…you’ve seen ‘The Cabin’ right? Actually…..the eye is mine…I lifted it from a self-portrait….don’t think I’ll upload that now LOL
Jeff Burns, 5 months ago
That is exactly what I was thinking I could see you going into the woods and finding someone and saying hey wanna be a star. Go hide behind that door and look at me. LMAO
Only you buddy. Only you. I Love IT

Amazing work Simon
Barbara Sparhawk, 5 months ago
Wonderfully put together, you make it really work. I think these myths get started by parents and grandparents who don’t want the kids wandering off, then the kids do embroidery on it. And of course it’s all so Simon.

Great image, I hope your sister has recovered and you’ve paid the therapy bills!!! LOL ;-0

Dharna, 5 months ago
Such a creepy image Simon. I am glad I am the oldest and didn’t have a brother like you. Although I do remember being chased by someone with a dead spider. That is just as bad as goblins.
I live the fact that you believed your own stories as well.
Simon Gladwin in reply to Dharna’s comment, 5 months ago
Always had a VERY over-active imagination Dharna…..it’s a curse when you are 7 and are still working things out!
Naomi Frost, 5 months ago
This is MAGNIFICENT, Simon. I favourited it before I wrote the comment (I don’t do that often), infact it’s so great I may have to favourite it twice..lol I just love it – so much mystery…and the composition…WOW. Definately could be a movie poster. You must be sooo proud of this one.
I hope it gets heaps of exposure – people must see this!!!

great textures and colours again, love that wood colour – the eye is a great bonus too!
Halcyon007, 5 months ago
If we had a ratings system (which i’m glad we don’t) this would be getting a big smackeroo of a 10! So different, raw and perfectly executed. This would make a magnificent trailer poster for some horror movie.
Just the eye alone is creepy enough, but poking through the old door with rust textured chain sends a chill down my spine. The door looks old and weak enough that it could be broken down at will and danger is on the otherside.
Just magnificent Simon – This is truly a class image.
Simon Gladwin in reply to Halcyon007’s comment, 5 months ago
Thanks very much Stu…I’ve been trying to have a little wander out of my zone just recently. I like these….

This is fantastic Simon – can’t believe i am that far behind with your work – really sorry:)
I saw that journal in community today which says about stepping out of your comfort zone – i don’t think you have one :) You seem to be able to turn your hand and imagination to anything you want – this is a brilliant concept.
Simon Gladwin in reply to Deborah Parkin’s comment, 5 months ago
Thank you very much Debs….you have to try new things dontcha….its just a bloody huge bonas if they work LOL!
Simon Mears, 5 months ago
stunning work Simon.. i’d have been happy with the lock and the door – textures and colours etc. but the eye, that’s fecking genius man!
Simon Gladwin in reply to Simon Mears’s comment, 5 months ago

This is wonderfully done – the colours re so rich that they put your eye to shame. I’m am so very terribly sorry, (LOL) but, I don’t think it’s the least bit spooky or scary. I love it.

I cut off one of my sisters pig tails with a pair of scissors…..she had lovely long hair…..I made it scalp short on one side….she had to have it cut short to make it look right….........christ I was a mean bugger…I’m suprised she talks to me now LOL
