Introducing Scoop Neck Tees and Unisex Tanks — FIND OUT MORE

I finally decided to finish up my Chinese Zodiac series. I started it back in 2007, so I have definitely been taking my time! This work is acrylic / mixed media on canvas, 16×20 inches.

So here is the latest member of the series – one of my personal favorites, the Pig. Pigs get such a bad turn in our society – they are extremely smart and sensitive animals – even more so than our wonderful dogs. When given the chance, they are very sociable and friendly. But we slaughter them for food and we call filthy people ‘pigs’, even though they are actually very clean animals when given proper and ample living conditions (which far too often they are not given).

So my little picture perfect friend here has a stormy sky looming around him with bare trees, like bony hands, grasping him on either side. In front of him is a faux pearl strand, playing on the saying “pearls before swine”.

I have a few other members of the Chinese Zodiac series here on redbubble:

I am intrigued by the picture frame with a 3d object protruding; very original and interesting. I am also gladdened that you have taken up for pigs. Someone had to. I have done the same in support of misunderstood animals like the tapeworm and mosquito. They are not often painted in a positive light… people always seem to dwell on the negatives.
