Humans have the tendency to place ourselves on levels separate from other creatures, i.e. – on a pedestal. We think we have intellectual superiority and even worse, there are those who consider humans to exclusively be created in the image of God. I see this arrogance as a way of separating us from our foundation – the Intelligence that created all creatures including humans. This high elevation of humanity and the separation from our foundation are both symbolized by the brain levitating above the pedestal. In the desert sand, for me being symbolic of the subconscious, we see a reflection of the pedestal. Of course, since sand does not reflect, it all must be a mirage – an illusion that we’ve made for ourselves.
