The Premonition Dreamt it was a Child
Acrylic & India ink art marker on canvas, 18×24 inches.
This painting is actually a late stage extension of my childhood sexual abuse painting series. It symbolizes a quiet, nostalgic yearning for those lovely parts of my childhood that were either lost or at least, diminished, amidst the ugliness of the abuse.
If interested, you can see the entire abuse series at http://www.gjefle-art.com/abuse/abuse-index.htm
You can also see this paintings “sister” piece here on Redbubble.
A somewhat significant difference between these two related paintings is the eye color. In the painting above, the eyes more closely match the desert sand. In “The Premonition Dreamt it was a Child”, the eyes are green – envious of the childhood it can’t really have.

YOUR WORKS ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING AND FOR ME, VERY “HEARTFELT”....spectacular, moving, emotive, just plain explosive with powerful messages

Very touching image … I always looked to surrealism for light-heartedness, but you’ve added another dimension! Thank you!

Stunning art – and highly symboic of your horrific chidhood ordeal.
Helene said it all.

Great artwork! Congratulations on your feature. I just looked through your series of 20 paintings portraying the ordeal you went through (and no doubt still experience). Very powerful, your art conveys a torrent of emotion and the search for healing.
Colleen D. Gjefle replied
Thanks for looking at the whole series – I’m hoping the more we all bring the ugliness into the light, the sooner it will fade away.

I understand where it is your coming from. I use the canvas in a surreal manner as well, it is my safe place. Somewhere I go to get away. To deal with the weight of memories…and to show others what’s it’s like in my reality.
Your work is wonderful to say the least!
Colleen D. Gjefle replied
I like how you describe surrealism, Ashley – profound and to the point. thank u!
