I open up my
Eyes amidst the
Pastel stream of
Light
I put that same
Song on
Yes, that song again
Swinging my hair up
Inside the draft of
Loneliness
Slipping on the dress that
Still runs on cherry trails
With you until the season
Taps my shoulder
And reminds me I am it
Each afternoon I move into
You and gaze at
Birds drifting
Away in disapproval
We were birds
You and I
I remember you’d whisper
Let’s fly
But you bet on a tree
Far from me
In some distant land
Like a better man than
I was a good girl for you
Or some boy singing blues
That ruined my world
You asked me
Why do I have to choose?
I said
If you don’t know why, then
I don’t want you to
And now I’ve been winding down
These summer days all
Alone – in our home
Fall is just around the corner
Soon distant bells will drop colored leaves
And I’ll step on your name each day

Oh I know, it was never really our home
But we made it so close to

Not enough.

It hurts to read, but I can’t stop, because it is so beautiful. Wonderful, poignant writing. This is what great writers are made of.
